Heb. 11:1, 3, 8-10
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. ...Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. ... By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. Rev. 21:16 (to :), 22, 23 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: ... And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. John 1:1-4 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. Gen. 2:1-3 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. Rev. 21:6, 7 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. Gen. 1:26 God, 27 God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. SH 301:6-23 To himself, mortal and material man seems to be substance, but his sense of substance involves error and therefore is material, temporal. On the other hand, the immortal, spiritual man is really substantial, and reflects the eternal substance, or Spirit, which mortals hope for. He reflects the divine, which constitutes the only real and eternal entity. This reflection seems to mortal sense transcendental, because the spiritual man’s substantiality transcends mortal vision and is revealed only through divine Science. As God is substance and man is the divine image and likeness, man should wish for, and in reality has, only the substance of good, the substance of Spirit, not matter. The belief that man has any other substance, or mind, is not spiritual and breaks the First Commandment, Thou shalt have one God, one Mind. SH 548:2 Christian Science separates error from truth, and breathes through the sacred pages the spiritual sense of life, substance, and intelligence. In this Science, we discover man in the image and likeness of God. We see that man has never lost his spiritual estate and his eternal harmony. SH 287:24-25 The supposition that life, substance, and intelligence are in matter, or of it, is an error. Hymn 224 (224) ST. LEONARD Henry Hiles... O Lord, I would delight in Thee,And on Thy care depend; To Thee in every trouble flee,My best, my ever Friend. When all material streams are dried,Thy fullness is the same;May I with this be satisfied,And glory in Thy name. All good, where’er it may be found,Its source doth find in Thee;I must have all things and abound,While God is God to me.O that I had a stronger faith,To look within the veil,To credit what my Saviour saith,Whose word can never fail. He that has made my heaven secure,Will here all good provide; While Christ is rich, can I be poor? What can I want beside?O God, I cast my care on Thee;I triumph and adore;Henceforth my great concern shall beTo love and praise Thee more. said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Luke 12:31-34 seek seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. SH 467:1-8 Question. — What are the demands of the Science of Soul? Answer. — The first demand of this Science is, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” This me is Spirit. Therefore the command means this: Thou shalt have no intelligence, no life, no substance, no truth, no love, but that which is spiritual. The second is like unto it, “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” SH 454:18-21 Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way. Right motives give pinions to thought, and strength and freedom to speech and action. SH 300:13 The temporal and unreal never touch the eternal and real. The mutable and imperfect never touch the immutable and perfect. The inharmonious and self-destructive never touch the harmonious and self-existent. These opposite qualities are the tares and wheat, which never really mingle, though (to mortal sight) they grow side by side until the harvest; then, Science separates the wheat from the tares, through the realization of God as ever present and of man as reflecting the divine likeness. Hymn 148 Hymn 148 Anna L. Waring* (148) EWING Alexander Ewing In heavenly Love abiding,No change my heart shall fear; And safe is such confiding,For nothing changes here. The storm may roar without me,My heart may low be laid; But God is round about me,And can I be dismayed? Wherever He may guide me,No want shall turn me back;My Shepherd is beside me,And nothing can I lack. His wisdom ever waketh,His sight is never dim;He knows the way He taketh,And I will walk with Him. Green pastures are before me,Which yet I have not seen;Bright skies will soon be o’er me,Where darkest clouds have been.My hope I cannot measure,My path in life is free;My Father has my treasure,And He will walk with me. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. ... He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. SH 465:8-12 (to 3rd .), 16-1 Question. — What is God? Answer. — God is incorporeal, divine, supreme, infinite Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love. Question. — Are these terms synonymous? Answer. — They are. They refer to one absolute God. Question. — Is there more than one God or Principle? Answer. — There is not. Principle and its idea is one, and this one is God, omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent Being, and His reflection is man and the universe. SH 698:22-7 A GRATEFUL TESTIMONY“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” This has been proven to me in every way. When Christian Science came to me, I was a wreck, physically, mentally, and financially; but since the reading of Science and Health turned my thought toward the light, I have found that, as far as I am willing to receive the word and live it, all comforts are supplied me. I am especially grateful for the spiritual help. I know that things which I did and thought last year I would not do or think this year, and am satisfied. Through the careful and prayerful study of Science and Health I have been lifted from sickness to health, from sorrow to peace, from lack to plenty, and, the most beautiful of all, from darkness to light. — Mrs. H.
